Know what to use before it goes off.
Hestily keeps the dates, so you don't have to. You get a reminder in time, and a recipe that uses it.
How can I keep track of food expiry dates?
Keep one list of the food you have with a date for each item, and check what is due first before you shop or cook. Hestily does this for you: it keeps a best-before date for every item, estimates dates for fresh food and reminds you when something has three days or less left.
How the reminders work.
A date for every item
Hestily keeps the date from the pack, or an estimated date for fresh food like vegetables and bread. You can change any date yourself.
Three days of warning
When an item has three days or less left, Hestily sends a reminder. Paid plans add a morning and an evening reminder.
Cook what is due first
Recipe suggestions put the food that needs using first at the top, so the reminder comes with a plan for dinner.
Leftovers count too
Leftovers and opened packs come first on a day when several things are due, so they get eaten before anything else goes to waste.
Use by or best before?
Many packs carry one of two kinds of date. Follow the label and the storage instructions on each pack.
- Use by is about safety. Don't eat the food after this date, even if it looks and smells fine.
- Best before is about quality. The food is usually safe after it, but may not be at its best.
